Tried This Pre-Workout Supplement and Here’s My Honest Take

Getting ready for a gym session is not always easy, especially after a long day when energy and focus are not at their best. I recently added Myprotein Origin Pre-Workout to my gym routine to see whether a pre-workout could make my training sessions feel more focused and ready. I mixed one scoop with water and made it part of my pre-gym routine rather than consuming it at irregular times throughout the day.

What caught my attention was the ingredient list. Origin Pre-Workout combines caffeine with citrulline malate, beta-alanine, L-arginine alpha-ketoglutarate, taurine, and L-theanine. The formula is designed to support alertness, focus, and endurance, making it a useful option when I want to feel more prepared before starting a workout.

After using it, I found the overall experience positive. The powder is easy to mix, the formula has several familiar pre-workout ingredients, and the caffeine gives it a noticeable kick. It is also suitable for vegetarians and vegans, and the product comes with 60 servings according to the product page.

Here are some of the main reasons that pushed me into this decision:

A Simple Pre-Gym Ritual

The easiest part of adding Origin Pre-Workout to my routine was the preparation. The recommended serving is 10g, around one scoop, mixed with 300ml of water and consumed 30 minutes before training. The product page also recommends weighing the powder for the most accurate serving because it can settle over time.

That time worked out really well for me as it offered me a clear routine before heading into my workout. Rather than reaching for another coffee or trying to push through a tired start, I had one consistent pre-training drink.

The Caffeine Makes a Difference

Caffeine is one of the reasons that led me to this formula. Myprotein states that caffeine contributes to increased endurance performance and capacity and helps improve concentration and alertness. The product page highlights a 300mg caffeine claim, while its current nutrition declaration lists 200mg caffeine per 10g serving, so I would personally use the nutrition panel on the product you receive as the serving reference.

The caffeine was indeed very helpful to me. It helped the start of a workout feel more switched on, particularly on days when motivation was low.

It Fits Different Workout Days

Not every gym session feels the same, and that is where I found Origin Pre-Workout useful. On days when I felt ready to train, it simply became part of my usual routine. On slower days, it helped me feel more prepared before starting my workout. Having a consistent pre-workout drink also made it easier to get into the right mindset instead of spending too much time thinking about whether I had enough energy to begin.

What’s Inside the Formula?

1. Citrulline Malate and Beta-Alanine

Two of the most common ingredients in pre-workout supplements L-citrulline malate and beta-alanine are combined in this formula. The product page highlights 6g of citrulline malate and 3.5g of beta-alanine in its marketing description, while the nutrition panel lists 3g and 1.8g respectively per 10g serving.

Beta-alanine can also create the familiar tingling feeling that some people notice with pre-workouts. I would not consider that a negative; it is simply something to be aware of if you have not used a beta-alanine product before.

2. Arginine, Taurine and L-Theanine

This blend does not end just with caffeine as its energy booster.  The nutrition panel lists 2g of L-arginine alpha-ketoglutarate, 1g of taurine, and 125mg of L-theanine per serving. L-theanine is especially interesting alongside caffeine because it is commonly included in formulas aimed at a more focused pre-workout experience.

The whole list of ingredients of this formulation also contains natural flavors citric and tartaric acids, coffee bean extract, maltodextrin, sucralose, Curcuma oil extract, and spirulina extract. The product is made in a facility that also handles milk.

A Few Things Worth Knowing

  1. Watch your caffeine intake: Avoid going over 400mg of caffeine per day from all sources, especially if you are sensitive to caffeine.
  2. Best timing: It may not be ideal late in the day if caffeine affects your sleep.
  3. Who should avoid it: It is not recommended for children or pregnant women.
  4. Easy to store: Keep the powder in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
  5. My verdict: I liked the taste, easy preparation, and how ready it made me feel before workouts.
  6. Best with a healthy routine: Pair it with good food, enough water, proper sleep, and regular training.

Would I Use It Again?

Yes, I would use Origin Pre-Workout again. I liked how easy it was to add to my routine and enjoyed the mix of ingredients. The caffeine is something to watch, especially if you are sensitive to it or work out late. Overall, it is a useful addition before training, as long as it is combined with good food, enough water, proper sleep, and regular workouts.
