This Eye Massager Is the Most Relaxing Thing I’ve Tried All Year

If you need a real-me-time device that will make you forget about all your problems and relax, the RENPHO Eyeris 1 Eye Massager is the product I would recommend. I did it, and I did mean it, after twelve hours of screen-gawking, after serious conferences, and on those few evenings when I knowingly made myself do nothing but relax, and it really served.

I would like to take you through the way I used it, the features that I liked the most, and why I think it is one of the most relaxing devices I have tried this year.

How I Used It

I will be straightforward, I was sceptical at first. I thought, An eye massager? But how is it going to make any difference? However then I made myself this habit:

  • One of my habits at night after dinner and before bed would be to lie down on my bed, turn off the lights, and then fasten it on.
  • The head-strap is movable so I ensured that it was comfortable enough (not tight) over my eyes. Then I picked a massage mode.
  • I turned on medium heat, Bluetooth music at low volume and allowed the device to wash in its 15 minutes cycle (it has an auto-off feature) as indicated in the manual.
  • I had applied it on another occasion, during a short afternoon break: for closing the blinds and lying down with it turned to compression + heat (no music) 10-12 minutes, and I was already falling asleep in a light trance.

Features I Loved

The following was what I found interesting (and why it is important):

1. Vibration Modes + Heat + Compression

The Eyeris 1 features inbuilt heating pads (c.104-107 °F i.e. 40-42 o C) and two degrees of air-compression massage with vibration or percussion selections. Practically: the heat was not excessive and cozy, and the force over the eye-area and temples gave the effect of a slight embrace.

2. Multiple Massage Modes

The number of modes available varies with the model, but you have about 5 (or 6 depending on variant) modes, namely heat only, air-pressure only, heat + air, heat + vibration + air, etc.

3. Music Integration Bluetooth

Yes, it has speakers built into it and is powered by Bluetooth meaning that you can play your own relaxing playlist or podcast as it massages your eyes.

I applied it by listening to a gentle track of binaural-beats or soft jazz; the feeling of warmth, massage and the sound around me would put me in the state of relaxation sooner than sitting down.

4. Adjustable Strap + Portability

The head-strap can be adjusted, the device is of a foldable structure (depending on the version) thus easy to fit to different head sizes and even to carry when travelling. In my situation, I found it comfortable when I used it in my new apartment and I only had to strap it on and go to sleep and forget about the external factors.

My Sincere Review

To be precise, I have to admit that I have found this device to be superb, and the following are the reasons:

I wore this eye massager after a long day of my start-up work with content meeting back to back, and my screens, and it was more of a mini spa moment. I was actually feeling less stressed, my eyes did not feel heavy, and my sleep that night was more profound.

The massage + heat + sound combination was more effective than I thought it would be. It wasn’t gimmicky. It had an actual impact on the feeling of tension along the eyes and temples.

A Few Minor Considerations

Just to be transparent:

  • The device is a bit heavy as compared to a mere eye-mask. It is more of a wearable technology as opposed to a sleep mask. Then want it to be a bit heavier should you be an ultra-light traveller.
  • You should not use it in case you have had some eye surgery, or retina problems, glaucoma etc. (the manufacturer cautions about it).
  • The strap on the head must be adjusted: the first time I tried it was tight, and I was able to make it loose. It is important to be comfortable and hence I suggest you take a minute to fit it.

Final Verdict

In short: RENPHO Eyeris 1 Eye Massager is the most comfortable device of the year that I tried and I can assure you I have tried plenty of relaxation devices. This device turned into a little ritual for me when I had 15 minutes to lie down, put it on, choose a mode and some relaxing music, and transition from the task mode into the rest mode.
