When you use blotting papers and a primer to block your skin as the first step in your skincare routine come on, I have been there. With oily skin, it is not simply a shiny skin but is a type of skin which is more likely to have larger pores, quicker to produce its own sebum, more frequent in break outs and the perpetual compromise of being hydrated but not oily.

I tried 12 famous Tik Tok products, which claim to make oil tamed, pores clear, and skin calm, and I write as though I had tried them myself (which I did). Below: what I would love, what would only be a spot treatment, and what you would use together in a realistic everyday skincare regimen.

3. Neutrogena Hydra Boost Water Gel

An oil-free, water-gel based moisturizer that had made my skin hydrated without being greasy, ideal in applying under makeup. It is hydrating because of hyaluronic acid but it lies on oily skin without leaving it. I use it on wet days.

4. Differin Adapalene Gel

I followed up with Differin on all other nights (followed by gentle cleanser) to focus on clogged pores, it is a real retinoid, so it will purge some. Weeks later it softened skin and minimized the number of breakouts. Apply sunscreen with this every day.

A clear odorless serum that I used and applied onto the skin prior to moisturizing. It contributed to the minimization of shine and the improvement of the look of pores after several weeks. The zinc gets along with oily, congested skin.

7. Rare Earth Deep Pore Minimizing Clay Mask

Weekly clay mask which tightened and decongested the pores. I applied it sparsely and kept it on the area of the body that had acne, and in a few days, it lasted me without coming off to clean up my T-zone and made it less oily. There is the drying of clay masks and then a light hydrator.

The ideal Tik Tok place ad. To visually reduce surface pimples I dabbed the pink sediment on obstinate whiteheads over night, and worked within a day. Gently use a Q-tip and do not rub in.

To do it in an oily-skin routine that TikTok would approve of, yet is sensible: foaming cleanser in the morning and a few times a week, then BHA to achieve exfoliation, then a serum of niacinamide to treat acne, then a gel moisturizer then sunscreen. Add Differin or SkinCeuticals serum in case of stubborn acne and put clay masks or the Kiehl mask on once a week. Blotting sheets are perfect in a quick touch up.
